Burn the American Flag? That Should Be a Crime
By Grandpa
No apologies. No sugarcoating. Just the truth.
Let me ask you something that’s been bothering me for a long time:
Why is it that if you burn the American flag, it’s called “a protest”, but if you burn a Pride flag, a BLM flag, a Mexican flag, or just about any other flag, it’s suddenly a hate crime?
You see the problem?
To me, that’s a bunch of crap.
Now let me be clear, I’m not for burning any flag. I think it’s all disgusting, childish, and disrespectful. Whether it’s a Pride flag, a political flag, or a national flag, setting it on fire doesn’t make you deep or brave, it just makes you look like you’ve got no better way to make a point.
But the American flag? That’s a whole different level.
That flag isn’t just some piece of cloth. It’s the symbol of our country, the freedoms we enjoy, the blood that’s been spilled, and the values we’re supposed to stand for. So, when someone sets it on fire to make some kind of statement, I don’t see a protest. I see disrespect, ingratitude, and disgrace. That should be a criminal offense, plain and simple.
🎭 The Double Standard
If you burn a Pride flag or a BLM flag, and someone doesn’t like the reason you did it, boom, they slap you with a hate crime. Not because you hurt someone physically, but because they didn’t like the message you were sending.
But here’s the kicker: the intent is what makes the difference under the law.
You can burn the American flag because it’s “political speech,” and that’s protected by the First Amendment.
But if you burn another flag and it offends the wrong group, suddenly you’re in handcuffs.
That’s not justice, that’s a double standard.
🗽 What About All of Us?
The people in power will tell you, “We’re just protecting marginalized communities.”
Well, how about protecting the one thing that represents all of us?
Because when the American flag gets burned, that’s not just some group being insulted, that’s the entire country being spit on.
And don’t get me wrong: I support free speech. But if we’re going to make it illegal to burn certain flags out of “hate,” then burning the American flag better be at the top of the list.
Otherwise, don’t tell me this is about fairness or justice, it’s about picking favorites, and I’m not buying it.
🔥 Final Thought
You want to burn something to make a point? Fine.
But don’t be surprised when people who’ve fought for that flag, or lost loved ones under it, don’t take it lightly.
That’s my rant for the day.
